My name is Victoria. I am officially in my early forties. I live with my husband Mike in Central Pennsylvania, with many neighboring cows. We recently moved here from the Philadelphia area, which has added an extra layer of complexity to all of my travel plans. We don’t have any children or pets, so you won’t see anything about those things here. However, we do have two well-traveled stuffed pandas.
In my spare time, I read, cook and bake, take photos, spend money on cooking/baking/photography supplies, and spend time dreaming about and planning for new travel adventures. Mike would probably say I spend too much time on Twitter and Facebook, too.
On the Food side, one of my first projects on this site was baking through Peter Reinhart’s Bread Baker’s Apprentice, which I started as a lark, but it ended up teaching me a lot about bread baking. I consider myself more of a baker than a cook, but I do occasionally post vegetarian recipes that are in my rotation. I’ve been a vegetarian since I was in eighth grade.
On the Travel side, most of my life goals can be summarized as places I want to see and experience while I can. Both of us work full-time, but we manage to fit in long and short trips several times a year. One of the main reasons I chose my career is because it tends to offer more generous amounts of vacation time, and I make good use of it.
I’m not planning to monetize my blog; GP is a labor of love, so I focus here on my personal experiences and don’t give advice. This is a personal blog, and not a travel or lifestyle blog.
I am neither a budget backpacker or a luxury traveler. I tend to fall in the middle, though I will splurge for some things. I have never stayed in a hostel; my excuse now is that I am too old, but I probably wouldn’t have done it if I had the chance when I was younger, either. I am a serial overplanner; in some ways I like planning the trip almost as much as the trip itself. I am definitely not one of those people who will fly somewhere with just the first night’s hotel booked, and wing it from there. I am working on visiting all 50 States, and I am obsessed with National Park lodges, road trips, and afternoon tea.
On the Photography side, we have a mixed marriage, in that I use Canon and Mike uses Nikon. I currently have a Canon 7D, but let’s face it, most of my recent photos have been taken with my iPhone.
If you are wondering about the name of this site, Goth Panda was the name of our band on Rock Band, which we were playing a lot when I started writing here.
